Ex-mayor of Casares may get 18 years. The public prosecution service has asked that the ex-mayor of Casares, Mr Juan Sánchez to be given 18 years in prison sentence and fined more then a Million Euros.
The charge is perverting the course of justice; this includes embezzlement, fraud, bribes and money laundering in connection with the residential estate called Majestic, that was constructed illegal, in Casares between 2000 and 2005.

Antonia Morera, the successor as mayor after Mr Sánchez’s who was a councilors at that time. Both ex-councilors and a there legal advisor have been charged over the Majestic estate.
Also the town hall’s secretary has been accused of falsifying documents, plus the wife of the ex-mayor is charged for money-laundering. Robert Mani whose origin is from Armenian with a French passport, charged with bribery fraud and embezzlement. The other developer, Robert Gaspar, has been declared ‘in absent’.
Mr Sánchez was arrested in May 2012 by the Guardia Civil, he was that time president of the ‘Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental. The investigation uncovered a criminal gang laundering foreign money through construction, specifically in Casares.
After three days he was bail on a bond of 200,000 euros. The gang allegedly channeled the money through two companies Majestic Land and Majestic Construction by Robert Gaspar and Man. Between 2000 and 2004 Casares council signed three agreements in order for the Majestic estate to be built. By five modifications of urban planning laws. 2006 an occupation licenses were given for 40 homes and 48 garages out of the 115 illegally granted Majestic Land to build on.
This should now start to give public the confidence bacK once again to invest the Spanish property market.
